The hotel

By the river, out of the old town.

Cuenca's historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Oro Verde stands outside it, by the river. It was built in 1983 on Avenida Ordóñez Lasso, in the Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos district, where tree-lined streets follow the banks of the Tomebamba. The centre is about 4 km away, a short drive, and the airport about fifteen minutes. A heated pool, a sauna and a gym fill the gap between a morning in the old town and dinner by the river.

The rooms, 69 in all, were remodelled in a modern style, and a renovation is recorded for 2014. A terrace on the riverbank is used for gatherings and events, and five meeting rooms take from 20 to 700 people. The Oro Verde name has been on the house for more than three decades, by the hotel's own account, and it describes itself as a five-star house.

  • Heated pool A heated pool, with a sauna and steam room alongside.
  • The river terrace An outdoor space on the bank of the Tomebamba, used for drinks and events.
  • Meetings Five rooms, from a table for twenty to a hall for seven hundred, and a business centre open around the clock.
