The hotel
Fale on the harbour.
The hotel stands on the Mulinu'u peninsula, on the harbour side of Apia, a few minutes' walk from the fish market, the handicraft centre and the town. It was once Hotel Kitano Tusitala before the Tanoa group bought it. At its heart is a courtyard of traditional Samoan fale, tied by hand, which hold the lobby, the restaurants and the bars around the pools.
Tanoa is a Pacific company, founded in Fiji in 1965 by YP Reddy and still run by his family. The name Tusitala means teller of stories. Six hectares of tropical garden surround the rooms, and part of it is planted for the kitchen. A full renovation was completed in May 2022. Tennis courts, a gym open around the clock and a conference centre for up to 300 share the grounds with the pools.
- The fale Lobby, restaurants and bars sit under hand-tied fale roofs around the central courtyard and pools.
- Garden to kitchen Some of the produce on the menu is grown in the hotel's own grounds.
- In town Apia's centre is 800 metres away, and the seafront is a short walk.
