The hotel

Eighty floors above Lonsdale Street.

The Ritz-Carlton opened on 23 March 2023, after a wait of nine years, in the top seventeen floors of West Side Place, an eighty-storey tower on Lonsdale Street. Forbes calls it the tallest hotel in Australia. An express lift runs from street level to the sky lobby, and the restaurant and bar share that top floor with reception. Guest rooms fill the fifteen floors below, from the 79th down to the 65th.

Cottee Parker drew the building around its views, with glass walls on every level. Inside, the Melbourne studio BAR Studio kept the palette neutral so the art could carry the rooms: local and First Nations work throughout, and lobby door handles cast in bronze from a piece by the Indigenous artist Maree Clarke. Bathrooms are in Calacatta marble, and the bar in Atria is carved from Victorian ash.

  • The spa on 64 An infinity pool behind double-height windows, open around the clock, with a vitality pool, steam room and sauna beside it.
  • Cameo The cocktail bar on the eightieth floor, known for drinks made with vintage spirits decades old.
  • The Club A lounge on the 79th floor for guests in Club rooms and suites, one floor below the lobby.

Rooms & suites

Fifteen floors of glass.

Rooms are named for what they face: the city panorama, the harbour, or the Yarra. All have marble bathrooms with soaking tubs and Diptyque products.

  • Rooms Panoramic, Harbour View and Yarra rooms From about 44 square metres for the entry rooms, with king beds, walk-in robes and floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Club level Executive rooms Rooms that come with access to the Ritz-Carlton Club on the 79th floor.
