The hotel
Jumeirah's first address outside the Emirates.
Jumeirah Messilah Beach had its soft opening on 7 May 2013, after delays caused by the downturn, as the group's first hotel in the Gulf outside the UAE. It stands on Al Ta'awun Street at Messilah, on the coast south of Kuwait City. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill of New York, the firm behind the Burj Khalifa, designed it. Today it has rooms, suites, villas and a spa of about 3,500 square metres.
The architects borrowed from old Kuwait: mashrabiya screens on the windows, and wooden doors made by hand after the dhows of the pearl divers. Gardens with water run down to a small private beach. Inside, the Reef Room for meetings is lined with more than seven million mosaic tiles. Failaka Island lies out in the bay, a boat trip from the city waterfront.
- Talise Spa About 3,500 square metres, with seventeen treatment rooms, a hammam and a 24-carat gold ritual.
- Pools and beach Two pools, a family pool and a splash pool for children, and a private beach with cabanas in summer.
- For children A kids' club with a cinema and a games room, and babysitting on request.
