The hotel
Babylon on the Dead Sea.
Ishtar was the Babylonian goddess of love and war, and the resort follows her city's most famous garden. The rooms, gardens and pools are set out in terraces on the shore, more than 400 metres below sea level, and the hotel sells itself as Babylonian luxury. Even the restaurants take Mesopotamian names: Akkad by the pool, and the Sumerian Terrace. The centre of Amman is 60 kilometres away.
Kempinski opened the first part on 1 May 2006: the Ishtar Villas, every room facing the Dead Sea. More rooms, a bowling alley and a cinema were planned for the following year. Today the resort has rooms, suites and villas, nine pools, five restaurants and bars from Lebanese to Mediterranean, and seven event spaces, the largest for 600 guests.
- The spa Twenty treatment rooms, heated Tepidarium loungers, six outdoor relaxation areas and a pool filled with Dead Sea water.
- Hydro-pool A hydrotherapy pool that the hotel calls the largest at the Dead Sea.
- Floating Down on the shore, the salt in the water holds a swimmer up without effort.
