The hotel

A bank in the Old Town.

The Marmorosch-Blank bank was a leading Romanian bank of the late nineteenth century, and Mauriciu Blank, one of its founders, is credited with much of its success. Its palace on Doamnei Street, in the Old Town close to the National Bank, is a listed historic monument. The interiors, Art Deco and Art Nouveau, belong to the Belle Époque, and some rooms keep more of the old architecture than others.

Apex Alliance, a Lithuanian hotel operator, spent three years and EUR 42 million turning the palace into a hotel of 217 rooms, which opened in 2021 as the first Autograph Collection hotel in Romania. The original bank furniture stayed in place. The restaurant took Blank's name, the money vault became a cocktail bar, and the spa went underground, lined in dark stone. The MICHELIN Guide gave it a Key in 2025 and kept it for 2026.

  • The Vault A speakeasy in the bank's own strongroom, with Champagne by the glass and cocktails finished with gold leaf.
  • Balance SPA Underground in dark stone, with an indoor pool free for guests, dry and steam saunas, and Sothys and Biologique Recherche treatments.
  • Marmorosch Palace Suite The top suite, panelled in wood.
