The hotel
Twenty-five years in San Lawrenz.
The hotel opened in 1999 in San Lawrenz, a village in the west of Gozo, a short drive from Dwejra Bay. The rooms are finished in Gozitan stone and set in semi-tropical gardens of 30,000 square metres. At its anniversary in 2024, Kempinski described itself as the only international luxury brand on the island. Six restaurants and bars run from L-Istorja to a sushi gazebo.
It marked its twenty-fifth year in 2024 with a garden party, a refit of the lobby, bar, terrace and pool areas, and plans to renovate most of the rooms. Vegetables, herbs and fruit for the kitchens come from the hotel's own organic garden. A daily shuttle runs to Victoria and Ramla Bay, and the Lady in Red, the hotel's ambassador, plans tours of the island.

Flying to Victoria.
Gozo has no airport for jets. Scheduled and private flights land at Malta International in Luqa, about an hour by road from the Ċirkewwa ferry, which crosses to Mġarr in roughly twenty-five minutes. From Mġarr to San Lawrenz takes about twenty minutes by car, our estimate.
