The hotel

Where the Costa Smeralda began.

Romazzino belongs to the first years of the Costa Smeralda, when the Aga Khan IV and a committee of architects were shaping the coast in the 1960s. Michele Busiri Vici, who also built the Stella Maris church in Porto Cervo, gave it white walls, rounded arches and soft, organic lines. Grace Kelly, Princess Margaret, Ringo Starr and George Harrison all stayed.

Belmond took over the management and reopened the hotel in 2024. The design studio Palomba Serafini has been restyling it in phases, first the pools, beach grill and lounges, then 26 rooms in 2025, with ceramics and hand-woven fabrics by Sardinian makers. Four hectares of Mediterranean garden run down to a private beach on Romazzino Bay, and the islands of La Maddalena lie on the horizon.

Getting there

Flying to Porto Cervo.

Olbia Costa Smeralda airport is about 31 kilometres away, roughly forty minutes by car. Private jets use the same airport, where Eccelsa Aviation runs a separate terminal; book slots early for July and August.

Delta flies direct from New York four times a week from late May, the first link between Sardinia and the United States. Request a fare Private Jet Private terminal Eccelsa Aviation, part of the airport operator Geasar, runs the private terminal at Olbia, 4,000 square metres of glass, steel and local granite.
