The hotel
A farmstead among the Elbe suburbs.
Gross Flottbek lies in the Elbvororte, the leafy villa districts that run west from the city along the river. Landhaus Flottbek occupies a former farm complex here, and the farm is still easy to read: oak floorboards, an open fireplace and ceiling beams that have been in place for about two hundred years. The hotel moved into the buildings in 1994.
The old horse stable now holds the reception and HYGGE, the brasserie and bar named after the Danish word for comfort among friends. The Hamburg studio in.krause designed the interiors, with plenty of space and light. The rooms come in four moods, from cottage and rustic barn to Scandinavian city style and a Hamptons beach house. Free parking, bicycles and a garden make it feel like a country stay inside the city limits.
- HYGGE Restaurant, bar and hotel lounge in one, cooking farm-to-table in the former stable.
- By the fire An open fireplace and old beams set the tone in the public rooms.
- Into town The S-Bahn reaches the centre in about fifteen minutes, and the Elbe is close for a boat into the harbour.
