The hotel

The studio came first.

Geejam started as a hideaway for musicians. The producer Jon Baker built a recording studio on six acres of the San San Estate, between the Blue and John Crow Mountains and the Caribbean, and artists from No Doubt to Björk and Gorillaz came to record. Later, with the music executive Steve Beaver, Baker added cabins for guests, and the hotel opened under Chris Blackwell's Island Outpost banner in March 2008.

The first cabins took their names from Jamaican music: Ska, Mento, Rock Steady. Sanwood, a villa of three bedrooms, had its own pool. A recent expansion added twelve rooms to those first seven cabins and villas, bringing the total to nineteen. The studio still works, and guests can book sessions in it. Frenchman's Cove, the Blue Lagoon and the town are a short drive along the coast.

  • A working studio The recording studio that started it all is still in use, and guests can book professional sessions.
  • Bushbar The open-air restaurant and meeting place of the hotel, cooking Jamaican fusion from breakfast to dinner.
  • Portland coast Frenchman's Cove and the Blue Lagoon are close by, with Port Antonio about ten minutes away.
