The hotel

A Rockefeller beach, rebuilt.

Laurance Rockefeller, a conservationist, opened Little Dix Bay in 1964 on a half-mile crescent of beach on Virgin Gorda. The resort covers some 500 acres of beachfront and hillside. Rosewood closed it in 2016 for a full rebuild, and Hurricane Irma pushed the work back further; it reopened on 6 January 2020.

The New York studio Meyer Davis kept the original footprint and buildings, including the tall conical roofs over the Pavilion, and refitted the rest. Most rooms still have no television. The spa looks out over the Sir Francis Drake Channel, and the Rum Room keeps 107 labels of aged and rare rum.

Getting there

Flying to Virgin Gorda.

Jets land at Terrance B. Lettsome International on Beef Island, off Tortola, and the resort's catamaran crosses to Little Dix Bay in about 20 minutes. Private flights are handled there by Signature; the airport closes at night. Small aircraft can use the Virgin Gorda airstrip, about seven minutes from the resort.

From Beef Island, the resort's private catamaran takes about 20 minutes. The Virgin Gorda airstrip, for small aircraft only, is about seven minutes away by car.
