The hotel

Built around the trees.

Rayavadee opened in 1994 on the tip of the Phranang Peninsula, where cliffs cut the land off from the mainland and every guest arrives by sea. The resort covers 26 acres on the border of Krabi Marine National Park. When it was built, the pavilions were placed among the existing trees, and none were felled to make room. Coconut groves still shade the paths between them.

Railay and Phranang beaches lie a few minutes' walk from the gardens, and climbers come from around the world for the limestone walls above them. The resort belongs to The Premier Group, a Thai family of companies, and to the Raya Collection. It has its own guides, speedboats and kayaks, and one of its restaurants sits in a cave under the cliff.

  • The Grotto A restaurant set under an overhanging limestone cliff by the beach, open from breakfast to dinner.
  • Out on the water The activities centre runs its own speedboats and guides for island trips, with kayaking and rock climbing from the resort.
  • Pool pavilions Several pavilions have a private pool of three by eight metres in a walled tropical garden.

Rooms & suites

Pavilions on two floors, villas by the sand.

Ninety-four pavilions in the style of a Thai village, finished in polished wood and deep-coloured fabrics, and seven villas with butler service.

  • Pavilion Deluxe Pavilion A living room downstairs and the bedroom upstairs, set in the gardens among coconut palms.
  • With a pool Pool Pavilion The same two floors, with a private freshwater pool of three by eight metres in an enclosed garden.
  • Villa The Rayavadee Villa A free-form pool with a built-in jacuzzi, looking out over Phranang Beach, with a butler.
