The hotel
A ryokan in the hills of Mae Rim.
Moncham is a hilltop at about 1,200 metres in the Mae Rim district, north of Chiang Mai, looking out over the valleys. Onsen at Moncham brings the Japanese inn to it: tatami floors, shoji screens, dark timber ceilings and futons laid on a raised deck, with a Karesansui dry garden raked between the buildings. The MICHELIN Guide calls the place a destination in itself.
The hot water comes from thermal springs deep underground. Guests have the run of the indoor and outdoor pools, kept separate for men and women, and seven of the ten room types have an onsen of their own. There are 24 rooms and suites in all. The MICHELIN Guide added the hotel to its Thai selection with one Key in 2026.
- The baths Indoor and outdoor onsen pools fed by the springs, and the Onsen in the Garden booked privately for two or for a family.
- Ko | Sake A sake lounge that claims the largest choice of sake in Thailand.
- Hi de | No bu An open-air izakaya and cocktail bar looking out over the mountains.
