The hotel
The tower by the station.
The tower was finished in 1993: thirty-eight floors above ground and six below, 140 metres to the roof and 153 to the tip of the antenna. It is still the tallest building in Tainan. The Far Eastern department store fills the lower floors, and Shangri-La runs the hotel above it, with the city spread out below the windows in every direction.
Tainan Station is across the road, a minute's walk from Exit 2, so the old capital's temples and lanes are a short ride away by train, taxi or on foot. Shanghai Pavilion sits on the thirty-eighth floor. Lower down there is a steakhouse, an all-day buffet, a lobby lounge and a deli, and outside the only heart-shaped outdoor pool in Taiwan, by the hotel's own account.

- The pool Closed for annual maintenance from 25 November to 2 December 2026. A guest who stayed in December found it unheated.
- Two stations The hotel faces Tainan Station on the ordinary railway. The high-speed rail station is about 22 minutes away by car.

Flying to Tainan.
Kaohsiung International, about 50 kilometres south, has the international flights and customs for private jets; allow about an hour by car, our estimate, or take the train to Tainan Station across the road. Tainan Airport, about 15 minutes away, has a few regional routes but no customs or fuel for private flights.
