The hotel
On the lake, next to the runway.
Protea, a hotel group with its roots in South Africa, opened this hotel in the first week of April 2012 with 75 rooms and suites. It went up right beside the perimeter of Entebbe International, closer to the terminal than any of the other main hotels in town, which still makes it the obvious bed before an early flight or after a late one.
It now flies the Marriott flag. The hotel runs down to a sandy beach on Lake Victoria, with an outdoor pool and a terrace looking over the water. The Tides restaurant cooks the fish of the lake, tilapia and Nile perch, and fills up at sunset. Bicycles are free to borrow, boats can be hired from the shore, and Tides Spa and a gym look after the rest.

Flying to Entebbe.
Entebbe International is next door, about 1.6 km away in a straight line, a few minutes by car (our estimate). Scheduled flights and private jets both use it; the airport is open around the clock and clears customs on arrival.
