The hotel

A great house on the plains.

The lodge opened in December 2012 as the first Four Seasons in sub-Saharan Africa. It stands at Banagi, just north of the Seronera River valley, an area known for its resident game. A two-storey great house sits at the centre, and the rooms spread out from it, each with an open-air sundeck. The camp is unfenced, so guests are walked to their rooms after dark.

The watering hole below the pool draws elephants most days, and plenty else besides. The Discovery Centre, with exhibits and a lecture hall, covers the local wildlife, environment and culture. The great migration passes heading north from April to early June and comes back south in November and early December. Game drives, walking safaris and balloon flights leave from the lodge, and the MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys.

  • The pool and the watering hole A free-form infinity pool with animals drinking a few metres beyond, and a dinner for two served on an island in the pool.
  • On foot and by balloon Walking safaris of ninety minutes with Maasai guides and park rangers, game drives, and balloon flights over the plains.
  • Spa on stilts Six treatment pavilions and a gym, linked by raised walkways and looking out over the Serengeti.
