The hotel
Raised to five stars.
Diani Reef sits on a thirty-acre plot on Diani Beach, south of Mombasa, with gardens running down to the Indian Ocean. The Tourism Regulatory Authority graded it four stars in 2016. After key areas were refreshed in 2018, the management reapplied, and in April 2019 it was raised to five stars, the fourth five-star hotel on the Kenyan coast after Swahili Beach, Leopard Beach and Medina Palms.
A year earlier, the World Travel Awards had named it Africa's Leading Beach Resort for 2018. The resort is large and busy: 143 rooms and suites, halls for conferences of up to two thousand delegates, a kids' club, tennis and squash courts. Two pools split the crowd, a shallow one for families by the beach bar and a deeper one kept for adults.
- Two pools A shallow family pool next to Fins Beach Bar & Grill, and a larger, deeper pool for adults behind the spa.
- On the sand Fins Beach Bar & Grill serves fresh fish, grilled meat and light Mediterranean plates by the beach.
- For children The Coco Jumbo Kids Club, and children under five stay free.
