The hotel
From City Hotel to Lancaster.
The Kumasi City Hotel opened in 1962 and was run by the state until 2000. Its owner, the Ghana Libya Arab Holding Company, had it completely refurbished, and it reopened as the Golden Tulip Kumasi City in January 2008, the month Ghana hosted the Africa Cup of Nations with Kumasi among the venues. President Kufuor opened it, and it was billed then as the first international hotel in Kumasi.
In July 2022 the lease passed to Lancaster Hotels, and the name changed with it. The new operator refurbished the building, and in 2024 the Ghana Tourism Authority named it the best four-star hotel in the Ashanti Region. The 160 rooms sit on seven floors in tropical gardens in Ridge, across the road from Rattray Park, with a pool, tennis courts and a spa in the grounds.
- Gardens Tropical gardens around the building, with an outdoor pool among them.
- Spa Massages, including deep tissue, in the hotel spa.
- Conference rooms Halls for up to 450 people seated and 900 for a reception, with smaller meeting rooms beside them.
