The hotel
The Okoumé Palace, rebuilt.
The Okoumé Palace was Libreville's InterContinental from 1972 to 2007. A Libyan group, Laico, bought it in 2008 and the renovation it promised never came. In 2011 the Gabonese state bought the hotel back, by then largely run down, and in March 2012 management passed to Carlson Rezidor for twenty years, with about fifty million dollars set aside for the works. The first phase kept part of the hotel open while the rest was rebuilt.
The rebuilt hotel opened as a Radisson Blu in December 2015 with 330 rooms; the hotel now lists 306 rooms and suites. It stands on the Boulevard de Nice with the Atlantic just across the road, between the city centre and Léon-Mba airport. Its function rooms take galas of up to 700 guests, and a lap pool and a children's pool sit behind the building.
