The city
The capital of the second island.
Victoria, still called Rabat by the Gozitans, is where the island's roads meet. Above the market streets the Citadel rises on its hill, the cathedral within its walls, and from the ramparts the whole of Gozo is laid out: terraced fields, domed village churches and the sea on every side. Mġarr harbour, where the ferries come in, is five kilometres away; the cliffs of Dwejra a little nearer in the other direction.
The season is long. From April the afternoons are near twenty degrees, July and August hold at thirty and are almost without rain, and November is still mild enough for the coastal paths before the December rains.
- The Citadel The fortified hilltop above the town, with the cathedral inside and a walk along the ramparts.
- It-Tokk The main square below the Citadel, where the town gathers around its market and cafés.
- Dwejra The western coast near San Lawrenz, with sheer cliffs and the enclosed lagoon of the Inland Sea.
