The city
Where Martinique ends in beaches.
Sainte-Anne is the most visited commune in Martinique, and the reason lies along its shore. Grande Anse des Salines curves for three kilometres in a single, almost even arc; beyond it come Anse Trabaud, Cap Chevalier, the Baie des Anglais and the beach at Pointe Marin. The Trace des Caps links several of them on foot.
Past the Pointe des Salines lies the Savane des Pétrifications, the remains of a forest buried by lava. Offshore, the îlets de Sainte-Anne form a bird reserve under the care of the regional nature park, approached only from the water. Inland, the climb up Piton Crève-Cœur gives the view from above.
- Grande Anse des Salines Three kilometres of sand in a single arc, at the southern end of the island.
- Trace des Caps A coastal path from Anse Caritan to the Baie des Anglais, cove after cove.
- Savane des Pétrifications Beyond the Pointe des Salines, the remains of a forest that lava once buried.
