The city
Cays at the end of a long road.
Cayo Coco covers some 370 square kilometres of the Jardines del Rey, the chain of cays along Cuba's north shore. More than thirty kilometres of beach face the Atlantic, from Las Coloradas and Playa Larga to Playa Flamencos, and to the west lies its neighbour, Cayo Guillermo, where Playa Pilar ends beside a dune fifteen metres high. The resorts are large and all-inclusive; the airport on the island brings you to their door.
Come in the drier months, November to April, when rain stays low and afternoons hold between 27 and 31 °C. In 2026 Cuba's shortage of fuel has closed or merged hotels on the cays and suspended many holiday flights, so confirm that your resort is open before you travel. US citizens must fit a licensed category, and one of the hotels below is on the State Department's restricted list.
- The causeway A 27-kilometre road laid across the water from the main island, the only way in by land.
- Playa Pilar The beach at the western end of Cayo Guillermo, overlooked by a high dune.
- Playa Flamencos One of the long beaches of Cayo Coco itself, where horses can be hired for a ride along the sand.
