The city
The Motława, the Long Market and the shore.
Gdańsk grew rich on the grain trade, and the money still shows in the tall, painted houses of the Main Town and in the old harbour crane over the Motława. Up the coast the city runs on into Sopot, a spa town of villas and a long wooden pier, and then Gdynia, all three on the same bay.
The MICHELIN Guide now covers all three. Arco by Paco Pérez, the area's only starred table, cooks Polish produce with Spanish flavours on the thirty-third floor of the Olivia Centre, the tallest building in northern Poland, while Eliksir holds the only Green Star in the country.
- The Long Market The broad street of the Main Town, lined with merchant houses and Neptune's Fountain before the Artus Court.
- The Crane The medieval harbour crane on the Motława, the emblem of the old port.
- Sopot The resort up the coast, with its beach, its wooden pier running out into the bay and its villa streets.

When to go
