The hotel

The Beachcomber, fifty years on.

The hotel opened on 19 June 1974 as Travelodge Tahiti, and many on the island still call it the Beachcomber. It celebrated fifty years in 2024. The owner is Beachcomber Tahiti SAS, part of the Pacific Beachcomber group, and IHG runs it as an InterContinental. Rooms sit in low buildings of three storeys, spread through a tropical garden of 25 hectares that runs down to the lagoon.

The resort keeps changing. In 2025 the Huriama Garden opened for cocktails and tapas, the Te Tiare pool came back after renovation and two padel courts went in. The premium rooms and suites have been redone too, with new bathrooms and terraces turned towards the Lotus pool and the sunset over Moorea, bookable from 1 December 2026. The overwater bungalows stand in the lagoon in front of them, twenty-five in all.

  • Two infinity pools The Lotus pool, with a bar you can swim up to, and the Te Tiare pool, both looking across the channel to Moorea.
  • Lagoonarium A natural aquarium in the lagoon on the hotel grounds, for snorkelling among the reef fish.
  • Evenings Polynesian dance shows at the water's edge twice a week, and live music at the Tiki Bar.
