The hotel
Under the tamarind tree.
The hotel was built in 2002 and named after the tamarind that still shades its main courtyard, a tree thought to be some two hundred years old. Guests walk in under an arch of bamboo from a lane off Ratchadamnoen Road, the street that runs through the old city to Wat Phra Singh. Behind the arch, forty-one rooms and five suites are set around courtyards full of flowers, with a pool and a restaurant at the centre.
It was the first hotel in Chiang Mai to be built in this Lanna manner: whitewashed walls, dark timber beams and clay tile roofs, with polished concrete underfoot. The rooms take their colours from the hill tribes of the north, in lacquer boxes and patterned fabrics. Tamarind Village belongs to the Raya Collection, which also runs Raya Heritage on the Ping River. The MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key in 2026.
- In the old city The night bazaar and the riverside restaurants are a few minutes away, and the temples of the old city are on foot.
- The Village Spa Six treatment rooms, with the Spa Suites reached by their own staircase.
- Lanna mornings The hotel arranges alms giving to monks at dawn, umbrella painting and garland weaving.
