The hotel
Golden teak under Doi Suthep.
Aleenta Retreat opened on 6 April 2023, the third hotel of the Aleenta name after Hua Hin and Phuket Phang Nga. It stands in the Suthep district on the lower slopes of Doi Suthep, near the forest temple of Wat Umong. The town is close, yet the compound feels like the countryside, with shaded woods around it. Aleenta is run by the Akaryn Hotel Group and belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World.
Much of it is built from reclaimed golden teak. The 1892 Bar sits in the original teak house, the library and art gallery fill other period buildings, and the four-bedroom villa was rebuilt from antique teak the owner had collected. Low roofs keep the place close to the ground, around a reflection pool and a courtyard. The group has run without single-use plastic since 2018.
- AYURAH Spa Lanna massage, Thai yoga massage and Tibetan sound therapy in a pavilion by the pool, with retreats in mindfulness and Vipassana meditation.
- Classes every day Hatha yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, breathwork and jungle walks, free for staying guests.
- The 1892 Bar Cocktails and Thai spirits in the old teak house, around a piano some 140 years old.
