The hotel
A colonial house, restored.
Hotel del Virrey occupies a colonial house built in the early twentieth century, a few streets from the centre of Salta. Its recent restoration kept the original structure, the patios and the garden at the back, and brought in new fittings and decor. It now holds eight rooms, one of them a suite, and keeps a boutique scale. Every room has its own bathroom, heating and air conditioning, and a minibar.
Plaza Güemes is about 400 metres away, five minutes on foot, and Plaza 9 de Julio, the Cathedral and the Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña about ten. Breakfast is a buffet, included in every rate. Afterwards there is the pool and the patios, and private parking for the car that takes you out to the Quebrada de las Conchas or Cachi.

Martín Miguel de Güemes airport (SLA) is about twenty-five minutes away by car. Scheduled flights come from Buenos Aires, Lima, Panama City and São Paulo; private jets clear customs at the same airport.
