The hotel
On the main square since 1942.
Hotel Salta opened in 1942 at Buenos Aires 1, the corner of Plaza 9 de Julio, the square of the Cathedral and the Cabildo. The building is neo-colonial, and Fodor's and Welcome Argentina both list it as a National Historic Monument, part of the country's cultural heritage. The Cathedral faces it across the square, with Cerro San Bernardo rising behind the town.
Its restaurant looks over the square, and the old town is all within walking distance: the Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña with its Inca mummies is a few steps away. Behind the facade there is a pool with a sun deck, and a quincho with a grill and a clay oven for asados. There is a spa and a gym too, and eighty rooms in all.
- On the plaza The Cathedral and the Cabildo stand on the same square, and the museum of the Llullaillaco mummies is a few steps away.
- Pool and quincho A guests' pool with a sun deck, and an outdoor quincho with a grill and a traditional clay oven.
- Restaurant and confitería A restaurant over the square, and a café for coffee and pastries.
