The hotel

The first view of Gozo.

Every ferry from Malta ends at Mġarr, and the Grand Hotel stands on the slope just above the quay. From the rooms and the outdoor pool you look across the harbour to Fort Chambray, and over the Gozo Channel to Comino and the main island. Fishing boats come and go below. Victoria, the island's capital, is about five kilometres inland.

The hotel has grown upwards. The original building carries a rooftop barbecue terrace on its eighth floor in summer, and a newer extension adds a ninth, where Level Nine opened as the hotel's fine-dining room. George Attard, who came home to Gozo in 2025, cooks modern Mediterranean food there, and the MICHELIN Guide lists the restaurant. Below it, two pools and an Elemis Spa fill out the house.

  • Level Nine Contemporary Mediterranean cooking with Gozitan produce and house-made pasta, on the top floor over the harbour.
  • Two pools An indoor pool open all year and an outdoor pool from April to October, facing Fort Chambray and the channel.
  • Elemis Spa Treatments, a sauna and a jacuzzi, beside the indoor pool.
