The hotel
Concrete on the quay.
The building went up in 1924 to a design by the architect Adolfo Gil Lezama, and the hotel counts it as the fourth reinforced-concrete building in Spain. It stands on Calle Ribera in the Casco Viejo, with the Nervión estuary in front and the Arriaga Theatre and Santiago Cathedral a couple of hundred metres away.
Tayko opened here in 2019. The studio Angulo Arquitectura kept the industrial bones and added steel, glass and polished concrete, so one half of the house reads as a warehouse and the other as a classic town building. There are 61 rooms on seven floors, from small singles to suites in the tower and the attic.
- Ola Martín Berasategui The hotel's restaurant holds one MICHELIN star, with Martín Berasategui in charge of the cooking and Raúl Cabrera as executive chef.
- On the estuary River View rooms look straight over the Nervión, and the Guggenheim is about fifteen minutes away on foot.
- Brunch every morning Breakfast is a brunch signed by Martín Berasategui, served daily.
