The hotel

A fashion designer's hotel between two museums.

Antonio Miró, the Catalan fashion designer, owns the hotel and designed its interiors. It opened officially on 25 October 2002, five years after the Guggenheim, on Alameda de Mazarredo, the avenue that runs between Gehry's museum and the Museo de Bellas Artes. From the street it is a sober block with a front of green aluminium and glass.

Inside, Miró worked in cream and black: black rugs, black marble bathrooms, local cream leather and white linen. The corridors double as a gallery, with about forty contemporary photographs by artists including Ana Laura Aláez and Alberto Peral. There is no restaurant, which leaves the city's pintxo bars and starred tables to do the work.

  • Opposite the Guggenheim The museum is about 300 metres away, and many rooms look towards it.
  • Acqua Wellness A private wellness space reserved in advance, with massages and treatments, and a gym open around the clock.
  • Photography on every floor A collection of about forty contemporary photographs, plus a library of books on art and Bilbao.
