The hotel
A film star's hotel, restored.
Brett King flew fighters in the Second World War before he went into Hollywood films. He and his wife, Sharon, fell for Harbour Island in the 1960s and opened Coral Sands on its pink beach in 1968. The hotel changed hands in the 1990s, and the AJ Capital Partners group bought it more recently and restored it in phases. The hotel stands on the eastern shore, about five minutes from Dunmore Town.
It reopened in December 2024 under the full name Coral Sands Inn & Cottages. The restoration, led by the owner's head of design, Krissy Melendez, brought shell work and wallpaper of local plants and animals into the rooms. The second phase, finished in 2026, added a beach shack, a padel court and cabanas by the pool. A spa is due to open later in 2026.

Getting there
Flying to Harbour Island.
Harbour Island has no runway. Flights land at North Eleuthera, with Delta from Atlanta, American from Charlotte and Miami, and short hops from Fort Lauderdale and Nassau; a taxi to Three Island Wharf, a water taxi of about five minutes and a short ride on the island take about 20 minutes in all, our estimate. Private jets are handled at North Eleuthera by White Crown Aviation.
