The hotel
The Thompson, replanted.
1 Hotel Toronto took over the building of the former Thompson Hotel on Wellington Street West and opened in the summer of 2021, the brand's first hotel in Canada. Rockwell Group of New York did the interiors. Tables and DJ booths are cut from trees felled in Toronto's 2013 ice storm, and the drinking glasses in the rooms are made from old wine bottles.
Greenery fills the lobby and the rooms, and an organic garden and a hotel for native bees sit on the property. Waste goes to an on-site composter, single-use plastics are banned, and the building holds LEED Gold certification. Rooms have organic cotton linen and filtered water. Outside the door is King West Village, a short walk from Trinity Bellwoods Park, Queen Street West and the CN Tower.
