The hotel
A ryokan at the top of a tower.
Aman Tokyo opened on 22 December 2014 on levels 33 to 38 of the Otemachi Tower, in the financial district beside the Imperial Palace. The tower stands in the financial district, and the hotel takes only its highest floors. Kerry Hill Architects, on their sixth Aman, used washi paper, stone and wood, so the rooms read as a city version of a ryokan.
At the centre is the Lantern, a lobby close to 30 metres high, 40 metres long and 11 metres wide, rising through all six floors. Beneath it sits a garden with ikebana, water and two rock gardens. Down at street level, the tower stands in the Otemachi Forest, 3,600 square metres of trees where The Café by Aman has its tables.
- The Lantern A paper-screened lobby rising six floors, its garden of stone and water set high above the street.
- Aman Spa Two floors of 2,500 square metres, with onsen-style baths, eight treatment rooms and a 30-metre pool facing the city.
- Musashi by Aman Edomae sushi at a hinoki cypress counter, led by the master chef Hiroyuki Musashi.
