The hotel
Where Sternlicht started again.
Barry Sternlicht, who founded Starwood Hotels and created W, launched his next brand here on 25 March 2015. Starwood Capital and the developer Richard LeFrak took over the old Gansevoort on Collins Avenue, last run as the Perry South Beach, and reopened it as the first 1 Hotel. It is far younger than the Art Deco houses down the street, and its beachfront is among the longest in Miami Beach.
Meyer Davis did the interiors around a green idea: driftwood, coral stone, salvaged Alaskan timber and wood from fallen rainforest trees, with filtered water in every tap. Debora Aguiar designed the spa. The rooms averaged about 65 square metres at opening, about twice the size of a standard hotel room. The building is LEED Silver certified, and in 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave it one Key.
- Four pools Four outdoor pools, one of them on the roof, with cabanas and daybeds.
- Bamford Wellness Spa Named Florida's best hotel spa at the World Spa Awards in 2026, for the fourth year in a row.
- Families The Seedlings kids' club, a beach club on the sand and an Anatomy gym.
