The hotel
Between the ocean and the valley.
Farglory Hotel Hualien opened in 2002 on a hillside at Yanliao, in Shoufeng township, south of Hualien City. From the slope the rooms look one way across the Pacific and the other over the Huadong Valley, the long rift between the Central and Coastal mountain ranges. The hotel is the hospitality arm of the Farglory Group, and its company has been listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 2013.
With 388 rooms and suites, it takes families, conferences and tour groups as well as couples. A renovation completed in 2022 updated the rooms, the public spaces and the restaurants, which cook Chinese and Japanese food and lay out an international buffet. Taroko Gorge is about 26 kilometres north, and the hotel runs shuttles to the airport, the railway station and the Farglory Ocean Park nearby.

Getting there
Flying to Taroko Gorge.
Hualien Airport is about 17 kilometres away, roughly half an hour by car by our estimate, with domestic flights from Taipei Songshan, Kaohsiung and Taichung. Private jets land at Taoyuan International, on the other side of the island; a continuation into Hualien, which shares its runway with the air force, is cleared case by case.
