The hotel

An island within an island.

Ta' Ċenċ is a high plateau in the south of Gozo, ending in sea cliffs, and the hotel sits on 160 hectares of it. The tourism board calls it an island within an island. The grounds hold Neolithic dolmens, the remains of the Borg tal-Mramma temple and old cart ruts. You come in through a stone tower, and the rooms spread out in low stone bungalows.

Grand Master Ramon Perellos y Roccaful of the Order of St John built Palazzo Palina here between 1697 and 1720 for the landlord who ran the estate; it now hosts events. The land belonged to the hotelier Victor J. Borg, who ran Ta' Ċenċ until his death in 2020. Plans to build more on the plateau have been argued over since 1996.

  • The beach A private rocky lido in an inlet below the cliffs, with clear water and Il-Kantra serving seafood in season.
  • The spa Built in the trullo style of the suites, with a heated indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam bath, whirlpool and gym.
  • The view From the plateau, across the channel to Comino and the main island of Malta.

Rooms & suites

Every room is on the ground, built of stone, with a terrace or a garden of its own.

  • Rooms Bungalow rooms Stone-built, single storey, each opening onto a terrace or garden.
  • Suites Trullo Suites Under conical roofs with beehive ceilings; the spa follows the same trullo style.
