The hotel
A marina hotel in old Anping.
Anping is where Tainan began, around the Dutch fort of 1624. Around 2015 the city put a plot beside Anping Waterfront Park out to tender for a hotel to be built, run and later handed back, the first such deal in Tainan. The only bidder was a company led by Hsieh Wen-hsiang, a Tainan man who started out as a removals worker. The hotel opened in 2022.
In English it goes by Formosa Yacht Resort. It has its own marina, which the city's tourism office says no other five-star hotel in Taiwan can claim, and the Tourism Administration certified it at five stars in 2025. In 2024 it hosted the state banquet for the presidential inauguration, the first held outside Taipei. Two murals of Tainan temples hang in the lobby.

- Events A convention centre for up to 1,000 people sits in the same building, so some weekends are busy with weddings and conferences.

Flying to Tainan.
Kaohsiung International, about 50 kilometres south, is the airport for international flights and for private jets, which clear customs there; allow about an hour by car, our estimate. Tainan Airport, with a few domestic and regional routes, is about twenty minutes away by our estimate.
