The hotel
A new name on the hilltop.
For years this was the Wen Wan Resort, a twelve-storey hotel on the crown of the Hanbi Peninsula, the stretch of shore it shares with The Lalu. The Hilai group took it over, spent about a year and a half rebuilding it and opened it again for guests on 1 November 2024. It is the group's first resort, and every room was given a balcony over the lake and its own hot-spring bath.
The architect Lee Wei-Min redrew the interiors and the entrance; Pan Yiru laid out the gardens on the old theme of pine, bamboo and plum. The water is the point. A carbonate spring drawn from 1,600 metres below is piped to every room, and the lake opens up across 270 degrees. Works by Yayoi Kusama, Ugo Rondinone and Zhu Ming hang and stand in the public rooms.

Rooms run from about 50 square metres to suites of more than 350. All face the water and all draw on the same hot spring.
