The hotel
In the oldest corner of Tainan.
Anping, on the coast west of the centre, is where Tainan began. The Dutch built Fort Zeelandia here in the seventeenth century, and Anping Old Street grew up beside it. Families here once hung a sword lion over the door to keep bad luck out. Crowne Plaza Tainan opened in September 2017 a few minutes away on foot, and put the same lion on every guest-room door.
The hotel has 231 rooms and suites, from standard rooms with balconies to rooms laid with Japanese tatami and a range of suites. Bathrooms divide wet from dry. Beyond the old town, Anping runs out to the coast and the wetlands of Taijiang National Park; the Sicao mangrove tunnel is about four and a half kilometres away, and the sunset platform five minutes by car.

Kaohsiung International, about 66 kilometres by road, is the airport for international flights and for private jets, which clear customs there; allow about an hour by car, our estimate. Tainan Airport, 20 to 40 minutes away, has a few regional routes. The high-speed rail station is also 20 to 40 minutes from the hotel.
