The hotel
A grand hotel at boutique scale.
The Hazelton opened in September 2007, in the middle of the Toronto International Film Festival, and the festival has kept coming back. Page + Steele drew the limestone exterior; Yabu Pushelberg, the Toronto studio, did the interiors in the manner of a private club. The MICHELIN Guide reads it as a modern grand hotel in the line of the Savoy, only with 77 rooms.
Yorkville is a few blocks of galleries, boutiques and restaurants north of Bloor Street. The hotel takes the corner of Yorkville and Hazelton Avenues, and the patio of ONE wraps around it under the trees. In 2026 the guide gave it two Keys, one of two Toronto hotels at that level. By the hotel's account it is the only independent boutique hotel in Canada with five Forbes stars.
