The hotel
Shangri-La's Canadian tower.
Shangri-La opened in Toronto in October 2012 on the first seventeen floors of a 66-storey tower on University Avenue, at the edge of the Financial District. The design draws on Asia: tall glass, carved wooden screens and running water, kept spare. In the rooms, the windows open. Above the hotel the tower rises to sixty-six storeys, and the two largest suites sit on the seventeenth floor, the top of the hotel.
Zhang Huan's stainless steel sculpture "Rising" climbs from the street into the two-storey lobby. In the Lobby Lounge hang four large calligraphy paintings of Peking Opera heroines, beside a Fazioli piano with song lyrics carved into its lid. Over the bar hang 180 hand-blown glass fixtures. The MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel one Key in 2024 and again in 2026.
- Miraj Hammam Spa A spa by Caudalie on the fifth floor, with nine treatment rooms, two of them hammams.
- The pool A salt-water lap pool of twenty metres under a glass roof, in a health club with an infrared sauna and a steam room.
- Afternoon tea Served in the Lobby Lounge under two-storey windows, with live music.
