The hotel
A Ringstrasse palace, redone.
The architects Flattich and Schuhmann put up the corner building in 1860, when the Ringstrasse was being laid out on the line of the old walls. It was built as a noble residence, with a white façade, a red roof and rows of even windows, and for some years before this one it ran as a hotel called The Ring.
The Vienna firm HOPPE + PARTNER spent almost two years on the conversion, and Nikola Arambašić of Zagreb did the interiors. The old staircase was restored in its original form and the historic lift kept; it now runs down to the spa. High ceilings, wood floors and candle chandeliers stayed. By early 2023 it was open again as The Amauris, a member of Relais & Châteaux.
- Glasswing Alexandru Simon's dining room, 45 seats and a seven-course menu from Tuesday to Saturday, given its first Michelin star in 2026.
- A roof that opens The indoor pool sits under a glass roof that opens for a swim at night, with a whirlpool, sauna, steam bath and hammam beside it.
- Opera Suite 120 square metres with a balcony over the Ringstrasse, and the State Opera a few minutes away on foot.
