The hotel
The bank on Am Hof.
The building went up for a bank of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and opened in 1915, on Am Hof, one of the oldest squares in the city. Ernst Gotthilf and Alexander Neumann designed it. It stayed a bank for most of the century, later as the seat of the Länderbank and, from 1991, of Bank Austria. René Benko bought it in 2008.
After two years of restoration it opened in 2014 as Hyatt's first hotel in Austria. The Dutch studio FG Stijl did the interiors, keeping the bank's grand rooms in use. The restaurant fills the old cashier hall, and the spa and pool sit in the former vault. Tuchlauben and Kohlmarkt, with their flagship shops, are only a few steps away on foot.
- Swimming in the vault A fifteen-metre pool in the old strongroom, part of the Arany Spa, with six treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam bath.
- The cashier hall The Bank restaurant serves Austrian cooking all day in the hall where the bank once served its customers.
- The Goldenes Quartier The square lies in the pedestrian streets of the first district, a short walk from St Stephen's and the Hofburg.
