The hotel
Strauss played here first.
The house on the corner of Burggasse dates from 1872. The site was once home to the restaurant Zum großen Zeisig, where Johann Strauss gave the first performance of his Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka in 1858. From 1873 to 1953 the whole building ran as the Hotel Höller, and in August 2010 the Sans Souci Group bought it, starting work two months later.
Two years of work followed, and the hotel opened at the end of 2012. YOO, the studio of Philippe Starck and John Hitchcox, did the interiors: herringbone parquet, baroque armchairs, Tom Dixon pieces and Egg Chairs. The owner, Norbert Winkelmayer, hung his own collection, with lithographs by Roy Lichtenstein and Allen Jones and photographs by Hubertus Hohenlohe, alongside gold-painted walls.
- The pool Twenty metres long, in a white spa of 450 square metres with a large sauna and a steam bath. The spa is for guests aged 16 and over, and is open to outside visitors too.
- Art on the walls Original Lichtenstein works hang in the suites, alongside pieces by Allen Jones and Steve Kaufman.
- Museums at the door The MuseumsQuartier is across the street, the lanes of Spittelberg are round the corner, and Mariahilfer Strasse is a short walk away.
