The hotel
Shinjuku, restored.
Park Hyatt Tokyo was the brand's first hotel in Asia, set on floors 39 to 52 of Shinjuku Park Tower, a building by the Pritzker Prize winner Kenzo Tange. John Morford designed the original interiors, and the hotel still has a library of more than two thousand books. It has welcomed guests for more than three decades, and in 2003 it was the setting of Sofia Coppola's film Lost in Translation.
The hotel closed in May 2024 and reopened on 9 December 2025. The Paris studio Jouin Manku worked from Morford's design, and the room count fell from 177 to 171 to make space for a new Park Suite. The New York Grill & Bar went back to its original look, and the bamboo grove still grows in the glass atrium of the Peak Lounge.
- New York Grill & Bar On the 52nd floor, restored to its original design, with the city laid out on every side.
- The Peak Lounge & Bar A two-storey glass atrium around a bamboo grove: afternoon tea by day, cocktails at night.
- The Library A reading room for guests, with more than 2,000 books on its shelves.
