The hotel
Built new beside the old garden.
The Charles was the first Rocco Forte hotel that the family designed and built new. Work began in June 2005 and finished in July 2007: an eight-storey block faced in stone, drawn by the Berlin architects Hilmer & Sattler und Albrecht, on land that once belonged to the city's botanical garden. Its lines draw on Art Deco, and it belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World.
It forms part of the Lenbachgärten quarter, between the central station and Königsplatz, with the Lenbachhaus a few minutes' walk away. The garden survives as a public park in front of the windows. In 2008 the building took the Villegiature Award for the best hotel architecture in Europe. Today it has 160 rooms and suites, a ballroom for three hundred and a spa of some 800 square metres.
- The Charles Spa Some 800 square metres, with a fifteen-metre pool, sauna, steam room, five treatment rooms and a gym.
- Florio Italian cooking from a menu written by Fulvio Pierangelini, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. His spaghetti with Costoluto tomatoes is the dish to order.
- Close to the trains The central station is about five minutes on foot, for the S-Bahn to the airport.
