The hotel

A chalet at the edge of the forest.

Stary Niedźwiedź, the Old Bear, sits on Strążyska at the southern end of Zakopane, where the houses give way to the woods of the Tatra foothills. From the road it looks like a traditional highland chalet. Behind the front, the fourteen rooms are minimal, finished in natural wood and neutral tones, with floor-to-ceiling glass facing the trees and, in some, a balcony.

The MICHELIN Guide calls the restaurant the best-known thing about the house. It occupies the villa's basement, Nordic in style with a log fire, and holds a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide. Venison loin with a dark, intense reduction is the dish the inspectors remember. The house also has pools indoors and out, a sauna and a steam room. The hotel was in the MICHELIN selection in 2025 and received one Key in 2026.

  • The restaurant Hearty modern cooking in the cellar by the fire. The guide picks out the venison loin with its dark reduction.
  • Pools and heat An infinity pool looking at the mountains, with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
  • Rooms with a view Some rooms have balconies; in others the bath is placed in front of the window.
