The hotel

Southgate, on the river.

The tower opened in 1992 as the Sheraton Towers Southgate and took the Langham name on 1 January 2005. It stands twenty-five floors high at Southgate, on the south bank of the Yarra, looking across the river to Flinders Street Station, Federation Square and the city skyline. The National Gallery of Victoria is a short walk away.

A refurbishment ran from 2010 to 2014. The lobby kept its chandelier of Waterford crystal, among the largest in the southern hemisphere by the hotel's account, and its displays of flowers in the brand's pink. Since 2013 the Melbourne illustrator Kerrie Hess has worked with the hotel, and a suite now carries her name. Melba sets out buffets with live cooking stations, and Aria serves afternoon tea with a view of the river.

  • Chuan Spa Treatments built on the five elements of metal, wood, fire, earth and water, a 15-metre pool and a salt-water jacuzzi that opens onto a deck in the warmer months.
  • The Langham Club A lounge on the 24th floor serving breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks to Club guests.
  • Afternoon tea Served in Aria, which looks out over the Yarra.
