The hotel

Houses on the bastion.

The hotel began as four townhouses standing side by side on St Barbara Bastion, the stretch of wall that faces the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour. Their vaults go back to the 1600s. Mark Weingard, who founded Iniala, had them restored by three studios: Autoban from Turkey, A-cero from Spain and DAAA Haus from Malta. Murals the height of a wall run through the rooms.

Harbour House, the first wing, opened in 2020. In October 2025 the MICHELIN Guide gave Malta its first Keys, and Iniala became the first hotel on the island with two. The group has kept buying into the streets behind: Solis, a restored palazzo with a pool on its roof, opened in July 2026, and Magistero on Republic Street followed in October.
